Little chocolate hearts
Covered in pink and gold foil
Shiny and beautiful

I want to taste the sweetness
Feel the chocolate melt
On my tongue
Enjoy the sensation

Then I am reminded
Sometimes they are
A too sweet poison
Like antifreeze

Instead I hold them
And stare at the foil
Before I put them away
To be tempted with tomorrow
